As Below, So Above — Xen’drik is Dangerous

The next day was going smoothly until the late afternoon. I was enjoying the scenery with Gwen and Jerrold and the skies were just opening up from the daily rain shower. That’s when we hear a shout from the crow’s nest “Sun-side attack! Looks to be two wyverns!” Oh boy. I run over to that side and can just make them out as one crashes into the crow’s nest and quickly sends the watchman flying out with a slash of its claws. The crew quickly takes up arms and begins to defend the ship as best they can, but the wyverns were so close before they were spotted there is still surprise amongst some of the crew. I notice that the watchman that was attacked had fallen into the ropes and was dangling there, unconscious. Without thinking, I raced up the beams of the nest and quickly get to a point where I can secure him. It was at this vantage point I then watched the rest of the battle. The crew was taken by surprise but quickly pulled things together. It was obvious that they were masters at dealing with aerial combat. It was not an easy fight, but the wyverns were driven off without any casualties on our side. A couple of the crew then made their way up to help me bring the injured crewman (Volstead) down (again, I’m quick but not all that strong). He gets fixed up by the ship’s medic. That was fun and scary all at once. Congratulations were exchanged all around and I was given many pats on the back and thanks for saving Volsted’s life. A few comments about how I got to be such a good climber and I just pointed at all the trees down below and flexed out my claws. It wasn’t long before things were back in order and I was challenged to a climbing contest by a few of the crew. Captain Sora’vel said she’d allow it since I looked like I knew what I was doing but handed me a feather fall token just to be safe. Volsted was among the competitor’s and I was happy to see he’d recovered so quickly (clerics that serve on a House Lyrandar ship are no joke and this one was actually a member of House Jorasco). Anyway, I won. Not only am I able to naturally climb, we Tabaxi can also put on a short, burst of speed that generally leaves all others behind. I put all those skills to use in each round and even manage to beat Jerrold after Prof. Ren’dall cast a fly spell on him. This appears to amaze both the professors, the Captain, and the crew, and it leads to the Captain asking me about the possibility of finding Tabaxi that might want to work as crew on her ship. I said I’d be happy to ask around once we got back. Oh yeah! I also won some money.
