Dad’s Job is Fun but Dangerous (Which Just Means More Fun)

Now we get to my time training alongside my father. This is where I got to learn more about different cultures hands-on, and how my interest in anthropology blossomed. Also helped me to hone my survival skills and hiding. Sometimes it’s waaay better to hide than fight, especially when even dad and uncle Trees tell the group to get scarce. I went on quite a few jobs with him and as my skills got better, I got to go deeper and deeper into the jungle. Now, Xen’drik is huge. I know people on Khorvaire think it’s tough to get all-around that continent but that ain’t nothin’ compared to trying to get around Xen’drik. No lightningrail, few trails once you get a dozen miles from Stormreach, and trying to ride a dinosaur through the jungle is more likely to get you knocked senseless by a thousand tree branches. And that’s just the jungle part. Out west is the massive Menechturan Desert. Far to the south are the giant Bluespine Mountains and Everice. You can take a ship around the outer areas (not that that’s all that safe either) or nowadays an airship might get you where you need to go. It’s not cheap though and you’ll miss a lot of the fascinating things going on below. Still, if you’ve got a set point and a load of cash, go with it.
For the most part, dad and uncle Tree’s clients were looking for stuff in the jungles (mostly relics of the giant’s glorious past) or couldn’t convince an airship to go over such hostile areas for the money they were willing to spend. But there were others too, like the Drow, who just wanted to get from point A to point B with as few issues as possible.
