Rites of Ascension to Adulthood – Day 6

Day 6 – I Sleep in a Tree (Only Exciting Because I’m in the Jungle)

6th of Nymm, 989 YK

We each take our scroll tubes, our pieces of the map and the list of stuff to get. I take a little extra time explaining to Marbles the direction he needs to go and the direction he’ll need to go toward to get back to Stormreach (may the Cat Lord guide him). Forgot to mention, once we find our various things, we’re supposed to crush them up and rub them on the pages. It’s important they stay dry until then. I head off to the northwest where a tributary of the Koronoo river should be. I knew it seemed like it could be far per the map, but I was really beginning to think I’d gotten lost. The sun was getting pretty low in the sky and I was thinking about finding a good spot to sleep. I noticed a long, red string trailing down one of the taller trees. I took this as a sign and went ahead and climbed that tree to see what I could see. I could just make out what was likely the route of the stream I was looking for. It was another hour away and being by the water it would probably be even more dangerous at night, so I found myself a nice place to sleep up in that tree and did so. I collected up that long string and balled it up. Still have that BTW. It’s a thing I often find myself pulling out and fidgeting with, which was not good since it was a tell to some that I might be nervous. However, I’ve found I play with it while I’m thinking in general so it’s not really an issue these days.

Oh yeah. Anyway, growing up you hear a lot of horror stories about the jungle, and don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty creepy being out there alone, but our dad had taught us some things and I managed to get through the night without incident. Not the best night’s sleep since every noise started me up again, but nothing tried to eat me, so I say success.
