Time for a Vacation

That’s right! As fun as the trip back with Jhazaali was, there was still some overthinking about the nightmare that is the Wastes going on in my head. MU definitely wanted me to take a position as an Assistant Professor now, but I decided it was time to take some time away from academics and just go experience the real world. Yes, Umbragen, Dhakaani, and Ghaash’kala are very real, but they are not day-to-day Khorvairen or Xen’drikan real. I did take an adjunct professor position and taught one short-session class before I left. Since I’d also made a decent amount of gold on my book and saw no reason not to spoil myself a bit. I’d talked to several people about places to go and it turns out that Stormhome if you can afford it, is supposed to be fantastic. Some of the discussions about where to go led me to some long conversations with members of the Wayfinder’s Guild in various taverns across middle and upper Menthis. This got me thinking about the possibility of adventuring. It’s not too different from some of the trips I’ve taken and would get me more into the day-to-day nitty-gritty of my own life rather than just observing others. The Wayfinder’s weren’t taking new applicants at the time (at least not those with no experience) but I got some great tips from some members about getting my own group together. I’m not exactly a leader type but I’d keep my eye out from now on. That also meant I needed to outfit myself a bit more. I already had some great gear, with the Biting Ant and Umbragen daggers and Savarashi’s beautifully crafted armor, so I really just needed some gear for being on the road. I went to a shop (also recommended by the Wayfinders) to get what I needed. I started with one of their standard setups that seemed right for me. I had done well in my hands-on classes for dungeon delving and decided to grab a few extras like locks and trap tools, some lighter rope, etc. We then got talking about weapons some. I mentioned I had a couple daggers and that I had used darts a few times in some fights I’d accidentally gotten into. This sorta’ set the shopkeeper off on a series of stories about ill-prepared adventurers and he convinced me to get myself a shortsword and a whole bunch of darts. He had this great bandolier and cool wrist, arm, boot, and leg sheaths so I could have darts concealed all over. Plus, the dark leather went well with the studded leather that Savarashi had made for me. Sold! So now I was equipped for life out on the road, adventures into the unknown, and deep delving into dungeons of ancient civilizations. But first, back to my vacation plans.

Okay, remember the suggestion of Stormhome? It sounded pretty nice, so guess what? I decided to book a ticket on an elemental airship there. “Whoa,” you think. “I didn’t think you’d have made that much cash off your book.” You are correct. I didn’t. I headed down to the docking area for Lyrandar to see if my Letter of Passage from Professor Ren’dall d’Lyrandar would actually help me out any. Turns out it did! Now, I was kinda’ dumb and said “no” when they asked if it was an emergency. Apparently, I could have gotten a free ride if it was, but it was at a rate that I could afford a good cabin and would have enough left over to stay at The Winds Favor Inn, a place that even got a great write up in the Sharn Inquisitive a few months back.
