Vacation in Stormhome: Around Highwash > Rose Ward > Moonstand Academy

Feeling like I need a dose of academics, I head over to Moonstand Academy. I introduce myself and they are very welcoming. They’re also very eager to talk all things Xen’drik. I, on the other hand, want to talk about meteorology and this leads back to Xen’drik oddly enough. Apparently, they have been intending to set up a “Meteorological Datacenter” to observe the “Potential Unique Patterns over the Southern Continent” and that much of their inquiry into the “Southern Hemisphere” has been blocked by zoning issues by the locals. They ask me if there are any particularly high or mountainous areas they should look into that would allow “Fairly clear and unrestricted views of the sky”. Aha! I DO know a place like that. For a high-altitude area, I mention the Titan’s Teeth being a small but incredibly tall mountain cluster, located at the base of the Skyfall Peninsula. I warn them that they are quite dangerous though. Not only giant vermin, but actual savage giants roam the mountains. However, if they can get to the top of a peak, they should be able to build a pretty defensible place for their research. They scribble my suggestions down.

They ask if I know a particularly good guide who might be able to lead surveyors there, seeing as I’m from Xen’Drik and all. The mention of ‘savage giants’ is a bit unnerving, but they seem resolute enough in their pursuit of scientific advancements, and so that, too, is scribbled alongside the notes. A guide? Why yes, I know of a great guide! Well, guides actually. Both of whom I can confirm have already been to Titan’s Teeth. Now, I suppose I should preface this with the fact that said guides are relatives of mine. My father and Uncle actually. However, they have been used by multiple Houses as well as various adventuring groups and factions within Xen’drik to find ways and things across the entire upper peninsula. My father is Beans in the Pocket, or Beans, and my Uncle is Walks in the Trees, or Trees. In addition, my sister has served several House Lyrandar captains and associates as both a guide and bodyguard within the city of Stormreach. A few I recall off the top of my head are Captain Sora’vel of The Wind’s Pleasure, and Captain Etrigan of the Sea Tiger.” I provide them additional contact information. These peeps like to write and everything is furiously scribbled down, including the notes that they are my family as well as having previous ties to Lyrandar. The contact information is happily taken and, with a flourish, the piece of notepad paper is handed off to a younger fellow, who runs off to carry the information elsewhere in the tower. After that bit of usefulness is fulfilled, the assorted meteorologists engage in a bit of idle chatter.

As for meteorology itself, they explain that Meteorology is akin to seeking the presence of great beasts by following their trails: Broken sticks, scales, fur, feathers, all add up to a prediction of what you will see, and how to deal with it! But you can only make a solid guess if you have a lot of background in the area, and so on. They impress that it takes a lot of data and a lot of time. More than one scholar can ever do alone. They also mention it’s very worth it, and have really been focusing on the “Post-Mourning pattern differences” in the years following.
